I was honestly at a loss when it came to finding a song or artist that began with Q let alone writing another blog post on the subject. I very nearly just wrote about how awkward the letter was. While cleaning the loo I found myself humming Que Hiciste, a song that makes me want to dance and sing and really LIVE! It’s just one of those songs that lets you believe, even for a second that you’re someone else. You’re a flamenco dancer, you’re a salsa queen. You’re alive.

“Sabali, Sabali, Sabali, yonkontê Sabali, Sabali, Sabali, kiye Ni kêra môgô”

Patience is one of the most moving and powerful songs that I’ve ever heard. The lyrics here really make you think of exactly where we are as a species and where it is we’re going. We think we know everything, but we don’t. As the lyrics state, we once thought the world was flat, and then it was round. If the shape changes again…. the who was wrong and who was right?

Another thing that really makes you think is the lyric, ‘are we goring wiser or are we just growing tall’? Homosapien literally translates to ‘wise wise man’, and as we’ve evolved, we adopted a more upright position. Sure, we have science and technology now, and we know a lot more than we did then, but knowledge and wisdom are two different things entirely. The question still remains? Are we growing wiser? Or just taller?

uudamuudam

mother in a dreamAfter forcing myself to sit down and watch the abysmal ‘talent’ show that is BGT this weekend, I was reminded of a song that has become one of my favourites since it was sung on the Chinese version of the show by a young Mongolian boy named Uudam. You may have seen or heard his performance as it did go viral online soon after being broadcast. If you haven’t, you can watch the original performance here.

I always ‘judge’ music in other languages on its ability to make me feel  something before I even know exactly what is being said. This the case with Mother in a Dream. Continue reading

jtLosing my wayNow this may be slightly controversial but… oh well?

I think drug users are stupid. It’s as plain as that. Drugs ruin lives, ruin your ability to think and make informed decisions and if you take them, then you’ll probably end up running around the streets of California trying to eat people’s faces or something. (Huge generalization I know but……. you know. Drugs.)

Now, some of my readers/followers may be drug users. To that I say each to their own, but I still don’t agree with it.

The point I’m getting at is this. Drug users/addicts need help. ‘They’ve lost their way’.

Sure, I was brought up in a Catholic household but religion has nothing to do with what I’m saying and I’m not attempting to ‘preach’ in any shape or form. I’m just saying what I feel. Continue reading
