Mini Superdrug Haul – February 2016

So I started taking the bus from uni instead of standing in the freezing cold waiting for a tram to the station and realised that the Superdrug that stocks Freedom was now on my bus route. I went in specifically to buy the Brow Pomade and ended up getting a few bits to make myself feel better about uni fees. I know, I know, logic. Spending money because you’re upset you have no money. I’ll be poor but I’ll have nice eyebrows. They might get me a job 😂 Haha.

Of course I went straight to Freedom’s display and was happy to see that my favourite Glycolic Glow Tonic was stocked there. I didn’t buy any but it was just good to know I could find it physically in a shop now when I run out. I was a bit bummed to see that the Lengthening Mascara wasn’t there. In fact, no mascaras were. There wasn’t even a space for them. I’ll just have to order that when I next go online.

YouTube Made Me Do It – Nivea For Men Sensitive Post-Shave Balm Review | £5.29

Formulated with Chamomile and Vitamin E the gentle Post Shave Balm:
Helps calm & soothe the skin, helps to prevent irritation and alleviates
skin dryness after shaving.

I really do dislike a bandwagon but I may have to bite my tongue here, and take back everything I’ve said in the past about this specific new trend being a fad that people only go along with because Nikkie said so…

If you don’t know what I’m talking about, it’s the Nivea Men Sensitive post Shave Balm as a primer. Nikkie Tutorials discussed how she had been in need of moisturiser, grabbed the nearest thing, her boyfriend’s shave balm and just gone with it. She saw some fab results because the main ingredient is glycerin which creates a tacky base! Most makeup primers or sprays such as Fix+ contain glycerin for this reason. Since then everyone has been using it and I just wrote it off as another one of those things that YouTubers say they love just to get more views. You know? So I’m at the train station and as usual when waiting for a train I nip into Superdrug. I see nothing I really want so I just grab a Lilt and head to pay. Out of the corner of my eye I notice the shave balm and it’s reduced. Down £2.00 to £3.52. I don’t know how, I just ended up buying it….. And off it came with me to BlogHQ where I’ve been putting it to the test. Continue reading

Morphe Brushes Single Matte Eyeshadow review w/Swatches

A year ago, yes a year, don’t judge, I ordered four Morphe single shadows along with my Jaclyn Hill palette and some brushes. I had heard that the singles were much better quality than the ones found in the palettes (not including the Jaclyn one because that’s made of singles that have been put in a palette).

Individual shadows cost $2.26 from the US site or around £1.96 each from a UK seller. Don’t let the cost fool you…. We all tend to think that the cheaper something is, the worse it will be, but we’ve been proved wrong by some stellar brands like Sleek and Makeup Revolution. The Morphe mattes are high quality at Chinese Ebay prices lol.

Each shadow comes in its own sleeve protected by a foam hoop so the shadows don’t move around. I like this aspect of the packaging for added security. None of my shadows came damaged.  Continue reading

What’s IN my Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge?

rtspongethumbI always see those scripted and planned “What’s in my bag/phone/house/life” videos on YouTube so I was thinking, what’s something beauty related that you really can’t plan. BAM – Beauty Blender! And then I realised, I’m not ballin’ enough to spend £20 on a sponge, but I do have the RT Miracle Complexion Sponge and I had just repurchased a new one at Superdrug so taking a peek inside the old one would be fine.

I kept hearing horror stories about girls finding lumps of mould and whatever else inside their sponges because we mostly use them damp, probably don’t wash them enough and use them every day with a whole heap of oily products. The thought really freaked me out that I might open it up and find a colony and realise that I’ve been putting it on my face every other day not realising. Continue reading

EBay Jessup Brushes Coffee/Gold (Tom Ford Dupe) Review

After seeing a fair few YouTuber’s talk about both the Tom Ford brushes (cheapest (lip) brush is £36 – GASP!) and the Jessup equivalents from Ebay I decided to place an order. I couldn’t decide which individual brushes to get so I stuck with face brushes and got the 5pc set. This set comes with a traditional flat foundation brush (01), a cream foundation brush (02), a wide flat shader (04), a bronzer brush (05) and large cheek brush (06). Continue reading

YouTube Made Me Do It | Urban Decay Glide-On Eye Pencil Review

Another cult product that took over the internet back around 2013/2014 was the Urban Decay Glide on Waterproof Eye Pencil. While there are a good 40 or so pencils to choose from, the one that was raved about was Perversion, the blackest black kohl of life. I didn’t immediately run out and buy this pencil but I did buy it on a whim one afternoon when the Youtube-ness took over.

Perversion also comes in a mascara, liquid liner, gel and even an angled brush.

First off, this pencil is not cheap by any means, it’s £15.50 for 1.2g of product. I got mine from House of Fraser but you can get UD in the UK from Debenhams, UD online and Feel Unique. Continue reading

Four Month Spending Ban/Cap Outline

Considering I’ve only got one face and don’t even wear makeup everyday, I have far too much of the stuff. Through January I’ve set myself a no makeup spending ban and on day 10, that’s gone quite well despite wanting to go off and buy some new releases. After watching a video on YouTube (I forget who it was by), where a girl drastically cut down her makeup collection over the period of one year, I was inspired. While I don’t want to throw away any stuff, I do want to reduce the amount that I buy.

2014 was the year of ‘bandwagoning’ for me. Buying because it was what everyone was doing was the biggest ‘YouTube Made me do it! I bought so many things because in the community, it was the thing to do. In real life, I’m not one of those people that does things because others do it so I’d like to get out of the habit when it comes to makeup. Plus, I have so many new things that are getting no love. I’ve used them once or twice and they just sit in a drawer or on my vanity. I need to work through the stuff I have before I buy more. Continue reading

YouTube Made Me Do It - Ben Nye Translucent Powder - Sienna Review

We’ve all seen Ben Nye doing the rounds on YouTube and Instagram but the brand has been around for yonks in the costume and stage makeup department. The setting and luxury powders gained overnight fame when Kim Kardashian’s makeup artist revealed that he used the shade banana to set her highlight. I don’t personally like the extreme highlighted look and if I do highlight it’s always only one shade lighter than my foundation. Super bright BAM POW highlights just don’t look right on me. I instead went for an all over translucent powder to set my entire face. I chose Sienna, a powder with an orange undertone.

In the UK this product is quite annoying to get a hold of. I ended up getting mine from preciousaboutmakeup.com for £6.10 with Royal Mail first class delivery at £3.50. I thought that price was pretty fair. They do have a store in London over Shepard’s Bush way but if I had gone, I’d have payed more for tube than I would’ve done for delivery plus I’d have had to get a Costa Coffee and a Pret croissant and would almost certainly have bought more in the shop so it was better for me to jut stay indoors. As it happens, it took like a day after dispatch for it to arrive so that was pretty decent even though it was only coming from up the road. It would probably have been cheaper for someone in the shop to drop it in on their way home. Hahaha. Continue reading
