If you’re the kind of person that follows every beauty release then you’ll know that two weeks ago Makeup Revolution released a collaboration palette with Jane, the BritishBeautyBlogger. The palette is a complete labour of love which really shows in the overall quality.

I said I wasn’t going to be continuing the Makeup Revolution Monday series for a few weeks but today just happens to be MUR’s official birthday so I had to break that hiatus!! Here’s to many more years of drugstore domination! Keep giving us palettes as gorgeous as this and we’ll stay loyal forever!

Thirty shades of matte, glimmer and sheen combine in one golden palette for an every which-way smoky eye. From the lightest of brightening base colours to the darkest, most daring shades of navy, black and green and everything in between, Fortune is the most versatile, every-age, every-tone palette yet.

What you’ll find in Fortune Favours The Brave is light sheens and mattes, metallic bursts of colour heading through to the darkest shades of black, plum and navy. I (Jane) hope that it’s the kind of palette that you really feel you can sit down and experiment with and identify what shades really bring out your eye colour and compliment your tone.

The packaging for this palette is unlike any that Makeup Revolution has offered before. Instead of regular black shiny palettes, we have this sleek gold offering. It’s not metal but it is a much denser material that “sounds” metallic when you tap it with a finger nail. It’s heavier, and much more luxurious feeling. now, it’s no Urban Decay x Gwen palette or anything as swanky as say Tom Ford or Charlotte Tilbury, but look at this palette, if you own it, feel this palette and try telling me that there’s better packaging out there for £9.99 at the drugstore. You just can’t.

As well as the regular humungous mirror we’ve all come to depend on, you do also get a teeny tiny double ended brush included. It’s a marked improvement on a sponge tip, and if you’re in a squeeze you can definitely use it, but it’s not the best. I usually use the brushes in my palettes for swatches but I had some trouble getting swatches as good as with a sponge tip and that’s saying something. I tried using the flat side on my eyes also but it’s a bit too small to really do the whole thing. It was perfectly sized for my inner corner and my brow though so that’s what I’ve been using it for since.

In terms of colours, I’m drawn mostly towards the green section and the purple section. These are colours I feel safe in and they’re colours that flatter brown skin and brown eyes. The ones that are in this palette perform well on the eyes but not all of them swatch nicely. Which goes to show that the proof is in the pudding and you never know until you try them out. Don’t just go by swatches or you may miss out on something gorgeous.

The selection of colours are vibrant but muted at the same time. Most have fantastic pigmentation but the overall finish you’ll get with any combination is flirty, sophisticated and smokey. There’s a combination of plums and greens and golds that are traditionally quite mature colours but I think the point here was yes, to create a palette that mature women would feel comfortable using but also to create a palette that is universal in ages. As much as i love blue liner and green inner corner highlights, but realistically, this palette is full of colours for everyday and evenings out too no matter how old or young you are.

There are different finishes and therefore very different formulas in this palette. You may get 30 shades but it’s not really a “hit and miss” typical drugstore kind of palette. A couple of the shadows swatch dodgily, sure, but it’s how the shadows perform on your eyes that’s telling. Let me tell you, it’s been two weeks and I’ve tried these out, they all perform marvellously when you actually use them.

Some of my favourite colours are Drama Queen, Tip Top, Favour and Transformer. I think these are some of the best overall in the palette. Another would be Blacqua. It swatches badly but it is one of the blackest blacks when you actually use it. It has a very similar texture to charcoal (I know, doesn’t sound appealing), in that it’s quite powdery and not very soft. But it works like I dream. I’d imagine that used wet it would make a great liner.

This whole palette screams mature sophistication to me. I’m talking, power suits, board rooms, court room; fine dining, evenings out, hot dates to the Shard. It’s all just elegance but on a budget. £10.00! I mean sure, the price has crept up, you get fewer shadows than a Flawless palette but you do get hefty gold packaging which is new and the hard work and love of a blogger who understands what we want going into it.
