You find some really hidden gems in and amongst your own music collection. ‘State of the Art’ is probably the pieces of music that turned me away from cheesy pop and towards electronic sounds around two years ago. Whilst I’ll always keep ‘real’ music close to my heart, I find it so fascinating that such complex melodies can be created just from a computer and other electronic instruments.

‘These amazing simulations end up sounding even better than the real thing.’

It’s a bit of a random song but it’s one of my all time favourites. If you haven’t seen the video either, then I urge you to do so! I really love the concept of it. The fact that music can literally take over your house! Enjoy it.

BarryM Gelly Hi-Shine Lip Crayon review w/ swatch - Alpha

alphagellyinsta

Just a quick post on something I bought on Tuesday and felt was worthy of a post all on its own. Mind you, I say quick. I mean quick to type, not necessarily quick to read. I’m sure you’ve realised that I love a lengthy blog post! Ha.

fds

Anyway, I’m sure you’re all familiar with BarryM’s range of Hi-Shine Gelly nail paints that have a ‘built in’ top coat within them. What Barry M have come out with now is a Gelly Lip paint crayon type thing….. There are five shades, Vega,  Alpha, Sirius, Capella, and Electra (swatches below). I don’t like to go OTT on new products until I know I like them so I only purchased Alpha so I could test it out. £4.99 isn’t a bad price either tbh. Continue reading

Book Review - F. Scott Fitzgerald - Flappers & Philosophers - Bernice Bobs Her Hair

dsc_0558.jpgk

Don’t you just love a good looking book? I love a good looking book. This, is a good looking book.

When I saw this in the gift shop at the British Library I had to have it. It wasn’t even until I was on the tube going home that I even looked at what I had bought. It was book lust plain and simple.

Apparently it was Fitzgerald’s collection of short stories entitled Flappers & Philosophers‘.

Without being all ‘literary’ bout it, I’ll tell you why I love this story so much. During school there was always that one girl you thought was out to get you…. Right? And no one else saw it. They thought she was sweet as pie. Like butter wouldn’t melt. She did things to make you feel down and low and everyone thought you were exaggerating. She’d build  you up, only to drag you right back down all the while grinning like the Cheshire cat. Oh yeah, we’ve all been there. Keeping that scenario in mind, let’s look at Bernice Bobs Her Hair.  Continue reading

A response to people who constantly ask me to twerk

THUMBTWERKING.jpg

twerk

Syllabification: twerk

VERB

informal

Dance to popular music in a sexually provocative manner involving thrusting hip movements and a low, squatting stance.

Even the definition sounds vulgar. Now sure, I have quite a potty mouth, wear trousers and am sometimes out at night without a chaperon (har har) but I still maintain that I am a woman with a great many ladylike qualities. No self respecting lady however, would, in my opinion, make a conscious effort to not only learn to twerk but to then go out and do it in public.

This image summarises a lot for me. I’m not pointing fingers or attempting to cause controversy but when I hear ‘Twerk, Lauren, Twerk’ It makes me want to actually rip someones eyes out. The most upsetting thing about it is that it’s my friends that say it. My partner. People that I’m close to. And even if it’s a joke to them, it’s not a joke to me.

These people are making assumptions based on the colour of my skin. They assume that not only am I capable of ‘twerking’ but that I actually want to and that it’s no big deal. It is a big deal and no, I don’t want to. I have no desire to ‘make it clap‘ for your entertainment.  Continue reading

Once you get over the hideous dead patches of grass that are left behind from Winter Wonderland, Hyde Park is actually really lovely. A tall glass of chilled cider, sunshine, warm weather and good company made for a fantastic afternoon.  It’s days like yesterday when I  love life. London is one of those cities that chills you out despite the absolute mayhem of it. I’m going to miss London when I leave.

Here are a few photo’s from the Serpentine.

Nicole x  Missguided

CATEGORY

Now, there are a lot of bandwagons that I don’t jump on to because I just think ‘Ugh, no’ and the ‘Shamazing Scherzinger’ bandwagon is one of those. Having said that, I must say, I really like her new 52 piece collection for Missguided and thought I’d share a handful of my favourite pieces with you all.

Everything is so simple; It’s black, it’s white, it’s blue. There are just block colour statement pieces that you can dress up or dress down. There are no frills or lace, no unnecessary dangly bits and no emblems. The prices range from £15-£50 – Standard Missguided pricing really, so no complaints there. Continue reading
